Discovering mint tea
Mint has been cultivated since Antiquity for its fresh fragrance and distinctive vegetal notes. There are several varieties around the world, but two are particularly prominent in teas and herbal infusions: peppermint and spearmint. Their natural freshness makes them a choice ingredient, whether in a hot drink or an iced recipe.
The benefits of mint in tea and herbal infusions
While mint is loved for its flavour, it is also chosen for what it brings to everyday life, starting with digestion.
Enjoyed at the end of a meal, mint herbal infusion is an age-old habit that helps restore a sense of digestive comfort. It is especially appreciated after a hearty meal, when you seek that feeling of lightness and freshness that only mint seems to offer.
Naturally caffeine-free, it is perfect for enjoying in the evening, after dinner. Blended with green or black tea, it brings a delightful balance between freshness and uplifting character.
Hot in winter, iced in summer: mint has its place at any time of day.
Moroccan mint tea, an iconic tradition
Moroccan mint tea is the very embodiment of North African hospitality. Prepared with Gunpowder green tea and fresh mint leaves, it is traditionally served in small glasses to welcome guests and share a convivial moment.
Its taste is instantly recognisable: the vegetal notes of green tea meet the intense freshness of mint, often softened by a touch of sugar. This balance of sweetness, freshness and aromatic intensity has made it one of the world’s most popular drinks, and a source of inspiration for many creations.
How do you make mint tea?
A few simple ingredients are all you need to make a delicious homemade mint tea: 2 teaspoons of Gunpowder green tea, a handful of fresh mint leaves, 500 ml of water, and a little sugar to taste.
Start by heating the water to around 80 °C. Meanwhile, place the green tea in a teapot and quickly rinse it with a little hot water to reduce its bitterness. Then add the fresh mint leaves, pour the hot water over them and leave to infuse for 3 to 5 minutes. All that remains is to sweeten to your taste before serving.
For a summery version, simply allow the infusion to cool before serving it with ice cubes and a few fresh mint leaves.
