Comment faire un thé latte au thé noir ?

In summary: Choose a black tea (Earl‑Grey, Kashmir Chai, Tsarevna...), steep 1/3 cup of boiling water for 3–4 min. Heat milk (or a plant-based drink) over a low heat and froth it. Pour the hot milk into the tea, tilting the saucepan, then finish with the foam. Decorate with turmeric, cocoa or a cinnamon stick. A matcha or almond milk variation is also possible.

Step 1: black tea, Earl Grey, chai, matcha tea… make your choice

The tea latte is a general term derived from the traditional chai latte. Indeed, the term “chai” means tea in Hindi. Indians drink tea with milk and spices such as cinnamon, cardamom and cloves. This age-old combination has continued to be passed down from generation to generation for millennia!

Among our favourite teas for making a tea latte are, of course, teas based on black tea, such as Kashmir Tchaï, inspired by the traditional chai tea blend, as well as Tsarevna, our iconic Christmas blend with spices and citrus fruits, and of course the iconic bergamot Earl Grey black tea Anastasia.

Step 2: brew your tea

Once you have chosen your tea, boil some water and pour it into one third of your cup to brew the tea. Leave to brew for more or less time, according to your taste. Our recommendation: 3 to 4 minutes to reveal all the aromas of a black tea!

Step 3: heat and froth the milk

Put the milk in a saucepan and heat it over a low heat to prevent it from burning. Once it starts steaming, turn off the heat. For a smooth foam, you can use a milk frother, a utensil available in shops.

Step 4: pour in the milk

In the cup containing your tea, gradually add the milk until it is almost full. The trick is to pour while tilting the saucepan to preserve the foam! Once the milk has been added, spoon the remaining foam over the top of your blend.

Step 5: jazz up your tea latte

Let your creativity shine and decorate your tea latte. A touch of turmeric, a rim of the cup sprinkled with cocoa, or even a cinnamon stick placed on the edge of the cup.

There you have it, your tea latte is ready to enjoy.

Bonus: what if we gave tea latte a twist? With a matcha tea base, for example

The recipe can of course be adapted to your taste.

Lactose intolerant? Opt for a version with soya milk or vanilla almond milk. It will delicately flavour your drink.

Fancy a surprise on the palate? Try a matcha tea latte. The recipe remains the same, but the tea used is matcha tea, a green tea originating from Japan. Its bright green colour will catch the eye, while its distinctive taste will delight your taste buds.
